Living on court is a noisy, wonderful experience

Court Street is not just the main hot spot on Friday nights. It’s a place for people to grab a bite, shop for school supplies or for new clothes or even see a movie. On Halloween those bricks are home to the second largest block party in the nation. So with all of these leisure activities available it can be hard to remember that people live above the coveted bricks.

We all know it would be great to live above our favorite bar or restaurant, but there might be more to choosing that apartment than just proximity to night life. Students who actually live above these popular shops give a deeper looking into their reasoning to living on Court Street.

Bars don’t make for the best neighbors, but it’s not all bad

Everyone can see why Court Street is the most popular spot when it comes to having a good time on a Friday night or when they want to grab a quick bite to eat. What many people don’t know is the living arrangements on court street. Take a closer look into Jack and Aimee’s life living above Courtside.

A good year, starting in Goodyear.

Cleveland has long experienced the pains of defeat. The Browns have yet to out grow those pains. The Cavaliers are still riding high after making the Warriors lose a 3-1 lead in the finals and aren’t looking back anytime soon. The Indians share the same finals feelings with the Warriors though. Luckily, this off-season spirits are high as the pitchers and catchers begin to report to Goodyear, Ariz. Perhaps, higher than they were in ’96 and ’98 as the Tribe looks to forget those pains.

Never a stupid question

Many fans were questioning some front office moves this season, but remain optimistic. These are some of the more common questions. If you ask me these are good questions to have. Ask these questions to any fellow Indians fan to get the ball rolling.

True savages

Any fan wants to stay up to date as possible. When you’re on the go and if you’re one of the 675 thousand people that follow the Indians on Twitter then you’re in luck. If you don’t follow them I highly suggest you change that. It’s the quickest and easiest way to get info while on the go. The social media team for Cleveland keeps you up to date with all things Indians and they’re also complete savages.

Social media is great for giving you quick updates. It gives you small pieces of info that are a summary of a bigger story. Sometimes however, social media doesn’t give you enough. If you’re feeling like you need more info than 140 characters then check out Let’s Go Tribe.

Pitchers and catchers, please report to Goodyear

Meanwhile, in Goodyear…

Perhaps you’re a visual leaner and want to see how the Indians are preparing to get back to the World Series. Well then you can join the over 323 thousand followers they have collected on Instagram. on the ‘gram you still get news and info, but it’s way more fun here. you can interact with the social media team (who is still savage on there too) and could even partake in events that end in prizes like free tickets.

If you have plenty of time to set aside and really want to get into something, or you just want a larger variety of stories with spring training starting up. checkout Coverage is also picking up  especially for the Tribe who are sitting at 14-1 odds to win it all (any Clevelander says the odds are much better than that, however).  This is not as flashy as Lets go Tribe, but the content is just as good.

A Good year is a weekly newsletter, with daily updates, that keeps you updated on all platforms for the Indians. Whether it’s social media, news websites or blogs and other newsletters, you will have all the info to get what you want to know. Make sure you subscribe to stay updated from spring training all the way to October.

5 animals reacting the same as humans

Everybody loves animals. Their, at times, lack of common sense and innocence tugs at everyone’s hearts. Sometimes people like to say what breed of dog they are or what kind of cat best represents them. I think these animals best represent humans.

This is a face anyone with siblings will recognize. The is the face you see behind your mom while she yells at you for something your sibling got you in trouble for.  The face of victory. It is the face that no matter how hard you try to get your mom to notice, she never will. Everyone hates this face unless they are making it.

This is a face you all know and hate to admit. This is the face you make when you hear your mom’s car pulling into the driveway and it hits you that you’ve been sitting on the couch all day and did not do the two chores she asked you to do before you got home. The worst part is that it’s the same chores every time: the dishes and sweeping.

Everybody hates to admit it, but they all like a good “dad joke.” They get a good chuckle but never they never win best joke of the night. But when you need something from your dad, all of his jokes are the best jokes ever. We’ve all been like Mr. Whiskers here when we need a few extra bucks to go to the movies or grab something to eat. Everybody else’s dad jokes suck, but your dad’s? GOAT.

“Oh, I”ll only nap for 3o minutes.” You tell yourself this every time you take a nap and every time you wake up looking like the picture above  wondering what year it is and how it has come to this. You tell yourself it won’t happen again but we all know it will.

“The face you make when mom says the pizza rolls are done.” But seriously though, have you ever casually walked to get pizza rolls? I didn’t think so.

Strouds Run: Athens’ hidden gem

When you’re from northeastern Ohio the closest thing you have to a beach is something man made that is only open for four month and you have to pay to go to it. Lake Erie is there but its cold for the majority of the time
you could use it as a beach. There are lakes scattered through the state, but if you want to go to a true beach you’d have to leave the state. All of this is why I was pleasantly surprised when I started school at Ohio University and learned that there was a beach in Athens.

I was very skeptical when i first heard of Strouds Run. OU is in Appalachia, there’s no way there was a beach here. I could believe that it was a state park due to how much of the area was woodland. I was unable to actually go to Strouds until my junior year since I didn’t have a car until then. So when I made my first trip to Strouds I could not hold back my excitement.

The trip was a winding drive through the Appalachian hills with no cell service (a perk in my book). People always said there is a beach but I never believed them until I arrived and thought there actually is a beach here! I put my feet in the sand, listened to the surrounding families and my fellow college students, who were also ignoring responsibilities, and realized I was truly at the beach.

I’ve made multiple trips back since my first encounter. I try my best to take advantages of all the amenities. You can call head and rent a pontoon boat if you have a group of friends who are up for a little excursion. If you’re flying solo you can rent a kayak or canoe and take it out to relax on the water and possibly cast a line out. Perhaps you’re not feeling the water on a particular day. No worries, there’s miles of trails in the woods. I’ve been able to hike to the top of the hill that overlooks the lake and then get lost on the way back down. that’s the beauty of it though, getting lost.

Strouds offers many options for relaxation, including sunbathing or canoeing and kayaking.

Strouds is somewhere to get lost at. it is an escape for college kids who are stressed out and need a break. you can’t use your cell phone there, but nobody wants to once they’re there. They embrace all 2,600+ acres of the state park. Students, or locals too, rent out a boat and get lost on the lake for a few hours. They fill a backpack with the essentials and hit the trails and get lost in the woods until the real world calls calls you and says it time to get back to reality.

So if you’re ever in the mood to get lost for a few hours and you don’t believe there really is a beach in Athens, Ohio, head to Strouds Run State Park. I’m sure you’ll be able to find your escape.
